Winter Weather Operations — District-Wide

February 14, 2025

WACO – TxDOT Waco District crews will proactively mobilize this weekend to start early brine application on State roads in the eight counties the Waco District serves. Crews will be on roadways Sunday and Monday applying brine. Based on the current forecast, crews will apply brine to major State roadway travel lanes, including I-35 and I-14. Brine is a salt and water mixture that can help slow initial icing on pavements.

Tuesday, February 18, TxDOT’s Waco District will start 24-hour winter weather operations as personnel monitor the weather and adjust operations as conditions warrant.

If travel is necessary during wintry weather, drivers should:

Follow local forecasts; be prepared to delay or cancel travel plans during icy weather conditions.
Buckle up
Decrease speeds and drive to conditions
Increase your following distance between vehicles
Anticipate slick and hazardous driving conditions; be extra cautious on bridges, overpasses, ramps, turns, and shaded areas
Do not use cruise control or lane assist
Give TxDOT vehicles at least 200 feet of space during operations.
